| thankful in all circumstances | :The Option to Trust God when Feeling Trapped:

February 01, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

This morning I got up "dark and early" to shovel the snow off the driveway before we left for church. After scooping the wet, heavy white stuff off the driveway my family and I got ready for church. Just before leaving my husband and I decided that it really was not safe to make the 16 mile drive to church on roads full of hills, curves and deep ditches that are often poorly maintained when winter weather strikes. I was so sad that we were missing church. In the middle of my disappointment I remembered that I had the option to trust God even while feeling trapped by the situation. I could trust that since I'd asked for His wisdom in our decision making that He had helped us to make the right choice for our family. Maybe this was God's way of keeping our family safe from harm today, even though it was not what we wanted or had planned.

While I was very disappointed I decided to spend some time outside enjoying and being thankful for God's beautiful creation. Even though I would much rather be enjoying a nice summer day, I can still see beauty in God's creation and I can still thank Him for sharing with us.

I may feel like this leaf I found trapped under the snow and slush, but I know that I can choose to trust God in any situation and He can make it beautiful just like I found this leaf to be beautiful when I took the time to stop and enjoy it.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

~ Jeremiah 29:11

The Lord directs our steps,
so why try to understand everything along the way?

~ Proverbs 20:24

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

~ Proverbs 3:5-6

What's this all about??

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
~1 Thessalonians 5:18

I have noticed several friends that daily list something they are thankful for during the days leading up to Thanksgiving. This gave me the idea to start a collection of pictures that reflect things that I am thankful for. This will be a simple project with no guidelines or "rules"...I will post pictures as frequently as it is possible for me to do so and am allowing myself to use pictures I have taken in the past or take new pictures. This is not just a "Thanksgiving thing" that I will quit on November 23--this is something I will continue to do all year long. The main idea behind this is to keep the photography side of this simple and focus more on the heart--applying 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and having a true spirit of thankfulness for all God has done for me and blessed me with.
